Saber - A great innovation from Functional Tennis

Functional Tennis Saber: A Tennis Racket But Not As We Know It

I was lucky enough to interview Fabio Molle, the man behind Functional Tennis on the My Tennis Journey podcast.

Fabio is incredibly passionate about tennis and the Functional Tennis Saber is his invention from concept to finished product. And what a great product it is…

The Saber feels like and plays like your standard tennis racket but there is one big difference - it has a much smaller head size. A normal racket may have a 98 sq inch head - the Saber has a 37 sq inch head.

Playing with a Saber brings many benefits - it helps with your contact point, tracking the ball and helps ensure your footwork is good.

If you can play with the Saber you are most definitely going to be able to play with a regular racket!

And you know what I really love about the Saber - it brings a really fun element to learning.

Players look at the a racket with a head the size of the Saber and think: ‘can I hit the ball with that?’

Maybe they can’t to start with - but after a little while of being hit and miss they love the fact they can rally using the Saber! Smiles all round.

And don’t just take my word for it, here’s what Dave O’Hare, Coach of Grand Slam Doubles Champ Joe Salisbury said: "Every athlete I’ve worked with has responded really well to working with the Saber."
